Like many vacationers, Barbara traveled during her week off. She and a friend headed to Syria for some sightseeing and a meeting with the President, Bashar Al-Assad, and his wife Asma.

The country is on the United States’ list of terrorist-affiliated regions because of its objections to America’s invasion of Iraq, as well as friendly interactions with Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah. Still, Barbara says that she never felt safer; she stayed in Damascus, the capital city, which has been incredibly well preserved for the past 2500 years.

Although the ladies of The View are taking a vacation after a week-long broadcast trip to Las Vegas, viewers can catch up on missed episodes.

After dinner, Whoopi, Joy, Elisabeth, and Barbara saw Bette Midler perform; the Divine Miss M has a two-year engagement for her hit, “The Showgirl Must Go On,” which has returned to the Caesars Palace Colosseum.

Sherri, meanwhile, spent the evening enjoying the music of Morris Day and the Time. All of the ladies recommended George Wallace’s comedy routine, which he performs at the Flamingo.

Walgreens sponsored The View’s trip to Las Vegas, and is encouraging people to visit the Take Care Health Tour bus for screenings and advice.

The world-famous Chippendales dancers opened this morning’s episode of The View. Chippendales, which has been voted Best Male Revue by the Las Vegas Review Journal, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

The Chippendales show at the Rio Hotel & Casino started as an entertainment venue for women; the brand has expanded, making the company one of the most profitable in Las Vegas.

Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Debi Mazar all star in the HBO hit Entourage; the show follows a group of young men as they try to make a living as actors in Hollywood.

The cast of Entourage and the co-hosts of The View will cross paths again, as one of the upcoming episodes features the stars appearing on The View for promotional purposes.

The fifth season of Entourage starts on September 7 on HBO.

Michelle Obama’s appearance on The View last Wednesday is still at hot topic this week. Several media outlets, including the New York Times, report that Mrs. Obama appears more personable and friendly after co-hosting the show.

The dress she wore has also become the must-have item of the political season, as stores are rapidly selling out of the black-and-white floral ensemble from White House, Black Market.

Sherri co-hosted the Daytime Emmy Awards with Cameron Mathison last Friday night.

The View lost to Ellen DeGeneres in the Outstanding Talk Show Host category; The View also lost to Rachael Ray in the Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment category.

Ray and DeGeneres took home the top honors, but daytime host Regis Philbin was recognized as well. Philbin received this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the show.

The View is broadcasting live from Caesars Palace this week. The ladies were escorted onto the stage by several actors in ancient Roman garb; Barbara in particular enjoyed the amenities, as she was carried onto the stage by her escorts.

Fans of The View should prepare for a change, as the show will broadcast from Las Vegas next week. Caesars Palace will host the ladies, as they interview David Cook from American Idol, as well as celebrities Bette Midler, Jimmy Kimmel, and Rihanna.

The View’s own Sherri Shepherd will co-host the Daytime Emmy Awards with Cameron Mathison from All My Children.

The Awards honor achievements in daytime television; though The View has been nominated for Outstanding Talk Show, the program has not won. This year’s outcome remains to be seen, but fans are keeping their fingers crossed for Friday night.
