David Archuleta, the American Idol runner-up, spoke with the ladies of The View about his life after the show. He says he’s been too busy with music to pursue a romantic relationship; the only rumors that persist are those about his cloying father, Jeff, who was banned from the American Idol backstage area for assuming too much control over the show.

Archuleta cites Eva Cassidy as one of his greatest musical influences; he also performed “Stand By Me” on the show.

He will join winner David Cook and the other 8 finalists on the American Idols Live tour, which begins on July 1.

David Cook, who won the most recent season of American Idol says that he has been incredibly busy since the season finale; aside from recording his first post-Idol album, Cook is also preparing to tour with the other finalists from the show.

Cook performed his debut single “The Time Of My Life” for the Las Vegas audience; he will sing the song in over 50 cities on the American Idols Live tour.

Congratulations to David Cook, who became the newest American Idol last night with 97 million votes. Cook beat David Archuleta in a tightly contested match-up that had much of America on its toes.

In another unprecedented Idol moment, Simon Cowell apologized for his crassness, and for his insinuation that Cook did not have the wherewithal to become the seventh American Idol.

The final two shows on American Idol proved difficult for many viewers, some of whom report spending hours on their (sometimes multiple) telephones in an attempt to vote for David Cook or David Archuleta. Others had an easier time, and were able to vote on numerous occasions to help their ‘Fave Dave’ to victory.

The winner will be announced tonight on ABC, and will join Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, and Jordin Sparks as one of America’s favorite contestants.

Brooke White got the fewest votes on American Idol this week, and had to leave the show; her departure came in the wake of Paula Abdul’s latest blooper, when she critiqued a song that hadn’t been sung live on the show yet. Producers admitted that judges sometimes watch contestants rehearse, which may have led to Paula’s confusion.

Last night’s American Idol saw the final appearance of Carly Smithson. Joy wonders whether the lack of votes she received had anything to do with her choice of song for the week; Smithson sang “Superstar” from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, which Joy thought was out of context for the show.

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber made a guest appearance on last night’s American Idol, during which contestants performed songs from Webber’s musical theater repertoire. Barbara noted the degree of difficulty in singing these songs, evidenced by Brooke White’s rendition of “If You Love Me.”

David Cook sang Always Be My Baby; his brother, Adam, who suffered a brain tumor, was flown with sponsorship from Clarian Health to join the rest of Cook’s family in the audience.

Another night of American Idol provided another night of heartfelt song and donation money for the following charities: The Children’s Defense Fund, Children’s Health Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, Save the Children. Teri Hatcher (with back up provided from Desperate Housewives castmates) performed a guest rendition of Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats”; Brad Pitt also made an appearance, supporting his charity to rebuild New Orleans.

Last year’s “Idol Gives Back” week brought in over $76 million dollars.

Last night’s episode of American Idol took a slightly more profound turn, as contestants continued to choose songs that inspire, in order to encourage viewers to donate money to six charity for “Idol Gives Back” week. Jason Castro performed a rendition of “Over the Rainbow” with ukulele, which went over quite well with Simon. Brooke White, according to Joy, looks like she has hemorrhoids, and looks unhappy and emotional when onstage. Carly Smithson, normally one of Joy’s favorites, looked completely out of sorts, though; Joy wondered whether she might have “the red hat problem,” so named because of Joy’s experience with a detractor at one of her stand-up shows who wore an incredibly distracting red hat.

We have all 5 ladies today!

Elisabeth thinks last night was the best American Idol yet, and show a clip of David Cook’s rendition of “Billy Jean”, and rocked the house. Elisabeth thinks he’s a frontrunner to win, and Whoopi hopes that he does fantastic!

Sherri brought up Kristy Lee Cook, and the judges thought she was boring with her singing “I’m Proud to be an American”.

On Dancing With The Stars, Sherri called the results, with Penn Jillette and Monica Seles leaving the show.

Barbara watched an HBO show In Treatment, as the series ends this Friday and probably won’t be renewed.

Elisabeth fast forwards to the end of American Idol, as elimination night drags out forever.

Amanda Overmyer got voted out, and none of the ladies understand why any of them are doing talking back to the judges, as they used to take criticism well and say thank you. Brooke was another in the bottom three who wouldn’t shut up when receiving reviews.

Jennifer Lopez’s babies were on the cover of People magazine. Barbara wants to know which is harder to raise, boys or girls. The response is overwhelming that girls are harder to raise.

Sherri Goes off on Idol

Barbara mentions that yesterday Dick Cheney was interviewed and called the Iraq War a “major success”, and went on to say that he doesn’t care what the general population of the United States says when asked if the cost is too great. Joy thinks that going to war in the first place was a mistake.

Sherri’s mad because last night on American Idol that the contestants didn’t know the Beatles, and that they destroyed the songs, especially Brooke White and her rendition of “Here Comes the Sun”. (They called her by the wrong name though, they showed the video of Brooke White, but referenced Kristy Lee Cook.) None of them understand why the contestants are spouting off to the judges. They then criticized Carly Hennessy for her playing the victim card when Simon didn’t like the her choice of song.
